I decided to lay off of the military issues today in lieu of some light-heartedness…
1. The Man From Snowy River. What’s not to love? A hot, mysterious guy (who can ride a horse, might I add) earns his right to live in his family home, falling in love with a forbidden girl along the way. Add the beautiful mountains in Australia and you have a damn good movie.
2. The Princess Bride. It’s got everything in it. A love story, sword fights, ROUSes, torture machines, and a giant. Plus you get to hear “inconceivable” so many times that it could make for a great drinking game!
3. Old School. Because I would so live this way if I could get by with it. I love Will Ferrell and Vince Vaughn, so having them teamed up was great!
4. Failure to Launch. If you haven’t seen it, please do! It’s so funny that my sister and I were laughing out loud in the theater…very loudly. The Hubby even enjoyed it, which is rare that we agree on “girl” movies. Plus, Matthew McConaghay(sp? I once date a guy with that last name and I always get them confused) is hot.
5. Kill Bill Vol 1. Uma Thurman kicks ass so much in the movie that every time I watch it I want to run out and buy a yellow jumpsuit and a samurai sword. The second one was good for wrapping it all up, but Carradine’s long speech at the end is something I don’t want to sit through often.
6. Anchorman. Once again with the Will Ferrell. I hated this movie the first time that I saw it, but the more I watch it the funnier it gets. “With real bits of panther…”
7. The Sweetest Thing. This crude movie could have been a biography of my college roommates and I. For the record I was Christina Applegate’s character.
8. Austin Powers: Goldmember. Too freaking funny. I liked the other Austin Powers movies enough, but this one was worth buying. How can you not love Fat Bastard sumo wrestling?
9. The Notebook. So cliche, I know, but I just love it. Never mind that I bawl like a baby everytime I see it. I only wish that The Hubby and I would be so romantic!
10. Son in Law. I watch this everytime TBS shows it (which is often). The Hubby hates Pauly Shore, but I’ve still made him watch it multiple times. You can often hear me saying “Can I please whittle wood with you Pappy?”. I know, I’m a nerd.
11. Top Gun. You know, Tom Cruise pre-psycho days. Back when he was hot and I was in love with him. There’s nothing like watching the scene where Maverick and the guys are playing volleyball on the beach. Oh.My.God.
12. Chicago. I’ll admit it, I love musicals. It took me forever to watch this after it came out on DVD, but once I did I was hooked. I sing a lot of the songs to annoy The Hubby (he can’t understand musicals. They “make no sense” to him). Oh to have the body of Catherine Zeta-Jones in that movie!
13. American Outlaws. I love the portrayal of Jesse James by Colin Farrell (pre-man-whore days). Action, a love story, and cool music. I can’t wait to see it again!
There are so many others, but these were the ones that came to mind first! Thanks again Denise for the banner!
Honorable mention also goes to Napoleon Dynamite and Pulp Fiction.Get the Thursday Thirteen code here!

#4 was GREAT!!!
#7 was so funny, but I have to watch it late at night so the kids won’t see the singing in the restaurant scene.
#9 is such a tear jerker.
#10 are those chickens original or extra crispy?
#11 I wish Tom would have just kept his mouth shut. He ruined so many good sexual thoughts for me.
I am in love with Matthew McConaughey and the thought of him playing the bongos naked is to die for. Tom Cruise, pre-psycho days, is not far behind. Ooooooooooh.
I loved The Notebook too! I ask everyone this (Jenn, shut up with the comments), have you read “The Wedding” by Nicholas Sparks? It’s the sequel, kind of, and you get to see what happened with Noah and Allie. So sweet.
I love your list! (But you left out “Stand By Me”—heehee.)
Stay classy!
i can’t believe you like american outlaws.. NO ONE likes that movie and i LOVE IT! i love the guys’ chemistry in that movie- they are SO fun and funny to watch! and i love how bad ass ali larter is!

Oh my, The Notebook! I rented this once and my husband totally dismissed it as a “chick flick.” Guess whose eyes were watering more than mine at the end…
Most of these movies I haven’t seen yet but I did see Notebook and loved it.
My TT is up. Have a wonderful day…
Great list!
LBC
Allison, I haven’t read The Wedding yet, but I have read The Notebook. I actually have The Wedding, but it’s in a big pile of books I have yet to read. I guess I should bump it up, huh?
I TOTALLY forgot about Stand By Me. It also gets honorable mention.
You and my husband have similar tastes in movies. In fact, he was just watching Napolean Dynamite yesterday! And Old School is one of his favorites! Thanks for stopping by for a visit. It’s nice to finally meet you although I feel like I alread know your from your sis.
