Sleepy New Mommy

The adventures of a new mother who is learning that sleep is elusive

Grrr July 30, 2007

I understand there are problems with commenting on here and I’m so sorry.  I told you I was very new to the WP thing.  I might be in school for programming, but this is much different than writing pseudocode!

So if you are unable to comment, feel free to leave one at the old site (www.sleepynewmommy.blogspot.com) until I can get this one fixed.

I’ve had lots of fun things to post about, but I want to get this cleared up before I do!  Sorry guys!

Welcome! July 26, 2007

So welcome to my new digs!  Things are still a little crazy around here, but I think I’m finally ready to start blogging here full time now.  So please update your blogrolls.

Sorry for the generic look around here — I haven’t found a new designer yet since my old one quit her business :(  So for now this is the look you get!

Guess Who’s Moving! July 25, 2007

Filed under: Blogging — Meg @ 6:09 am

When I promised big changes around here, I wasn’t lying. I’m in the process of moving this entire blog over to WordPress. I’ve been thinking about it for awhile, but never knew the benefits that would come with doing this. I’m just now learning, so the going is slow, but I’m determind to do this myself so I can learn how to do it. The reason I’m explaining it all here is that I’m about to import all of my archives over to WP and I’m afraid of what might happen. So if things get screwy here for awhile, no worries. I’m still here, I’m just in the learning stages of something that could turn out either really good or really drastic!

Pity Party Part II July 23, 2007

Filed under: Me Me Me, Pity Party — Meg @ 6:57 pm

Sometimes I feel like I’m in a really big auditorium, speaking into the microphone, and there’s only Alison present (and the occasional Heather and Mrs. Rum). It’s time like that when I’m frustrated, but then I have to remind myself that I write this blog for ME. Sure, things around here have changed a lot and I don’t have the time to blog a lot, but sometimes I get confused as to why I lost a bunch of readers. It’s like a freakin’ high school popularity contest again and I’ll be damned if I want to go through that crap again!

So what I’m saying is I’m a comment whore, plain and simple. I shouldn’t be, as I write about my own feelings and only need to answer to myself, but it’s true. And you all know that you are too!

So even though I will continue to do what I want and blog about what I want, do any of you have any ideas of what you want to see, what you want to hear about, etc.? I’m thinking of making some big changes around here, and I would like some input.

Rocklahoma in Photos July 19, 2007

Sorry I took a few more days than promised to get these on here. I’ve had a lot of sleep to catch up on and a lot of housework to do. So here they are!

The Gang Before a Night of Heavy Drinking

And After! Apparantly when I get drunk I decide to be my own photographer — all of the pics from that night are taken by me OF me!

Me with some random guy. He and I rocked out together with those gloves. They hold a can of beer and it was the hit of night #3.

****

There are so many other pictures, but they are quite crazy. I will be posting them throughout the week, as it takes forever to upload them to Blogger. But I do have some crazy tales I will be throwing in with them.

The best bands by far were Poison, Twisted Sister (who played in their concert pink and black), and Vince Neil, in that order. It was insane. My SIL has awesome pictures of Poison, including some amazing shots of C.C. Deville, as we were close enough to touch him.

Along the course of the weekend, we had one person puke, one person flash her boobs, and a bunch of alcohol consumed (and this was just in our group). I had horrible hiccups one night and was convinced that doing cartwheels would solve them. This only ended in pictures of me upside down, spread eagle. Not pretty.

I forgot to mention that we spent the weekend tailgating with a minivan. Bitchin’ huh? One night we managed to run the battery down and had to be jumped by two guys that were passed out under the truck next to us. Yep, passed out under the truck. I totally took pictures.

The pot was rampant out there, as was expected, but there was one guy also willing to sell his soul for shrooms. The ironic part is that he gave this speech in front of the tent run by the police department. I stood in line forever to take pictures of Twisted Sister, but the contact high I was getting was making me sick, so I had to leave the line. I’ll stick to beer, thank you.

You guys, I can’t even begin to tell you how much fun this was. You have to make the drive next year, it’s worth it. This was the biggest 80’s rock concert ever, with over 80,000 tickets sold. People were here from all over. And I was among the crowd, acting a drunken fool and loving every minute.

More stories later, and you might be able to talk me out of some very incriminating pictures!

Destination: HairNation Vacation July 16, 2007

I just got back from the BEST WEEKEND EVER at Rocklahoma. Tomorrow’s post will have more detail, as I’m drunk and tired right now, but I had the time of my life. A giant Hulk glove, a dead battery, a lot of porta-potties, big hair, a few contact highs, cartwheels, one minor injury, and the best damn rock music ever!!

Pictures will come tomorrow. It will be worth the wait. Oh, trust me on this one.

Oooh That Smell July 11, 2007

Filed under: weather — Meg @ 7:46 pm

As evidenced by all of your concerned questions, I guess it’s pretty widespread news that Oklahoma has been hit by some torrential rain. We are all right and managed to escape the flooding, but barely. All of the roads around our house had been closed down, except for one. The rivers were dangerously close to the highways and lots of people around us lost their homes. Thankfully we live on a pretty big hill, so everything was below us and we managed to stay above the flood plain.

Now that everything has started to dry out, I’ve discovered something horrible. When the flooding recedes, it leaves a horrible smell in its place. Imagine about a month’s worth of dirty diapers, some huge piles of dog shit, and a bunch of rotten food and you can start to imagine what we’re smelling around here. I thought it was bad here at the house, but it’s worse in other places. I went running last night. When I got to the bottom of the hill where all of the flooding was, I almost couldn’t run because breathing that smell was unbearable! Needless to say, I quickly turned around and headed for home. I’ll have to find other modes of exercise until this stench leaves us.

But the rain is supposed to start again tomorrow. Grrr. It can’t rain this weekend — I have Rocklahoma to go to and it’s outdoors!

Thanks for all of you who were concerned about us! Sadly not everyone was as fortunate as we were, so keep them in your thoughts.

He Did It Again! July 9, 2007

Just when I was having yet another crappy weekend, my sweet husband swooped in and saved the day. Upon waking up yesterday, he told me to get whatever homework done that was due that night and to get showered and ready. He had arranged for Squeaks to go to a sitter and he had something special planned for us.

After dropping Squeaks off, we headed off to a winery about 30 miles from where we live and where I have been wanting to visit. We spent a lot of time walking around the vineyards, touring the winery, and tasting wines. After purchasing a few bottles, I picked up a brochure about other wineries in Oklahoma, which gave us an idea. We set off for another winery about 30 more miles away. Once there, we enjoyed another tasting, then sat on their deck sipping frozen “wine-a-ritas” and listening to live music. After leaving there, we took the long way home and hit up yet another winery. At this one we tasted just a few more wines and spent some time browsing the gift shop.

Once we were wine-d out, we stopped in at an Amish kitchen on the way home for the most amazing food I’ve ever eaten! The bad part was that it was a buffet, so I ate waaay too much. It’s a good thing that it’s too far to drive there every day, or else I would be about 100 pounds heavier!

So once again, my husband took me out and helped me get my mind off of things that have been getting be down. He might not completely understand what I’m going through, but he’s making an effort to be there for me and to support me. He’s really been listening to me and after having a talk with him last weekend about everything, he’s really come around. I am so lucky to be married to such a great guy.

Checking In July 7, 2007

Filed under: Me Me Me — Meg @ 10:55 am

For those of you who are wondering (all 3 of you), I survived my night with 5 children. It was exhausting, but not as bad as I thought it would be. However, it will be a long time before I’m brave (or stupid) enough to do it again.

But have you guys played the game Guitar Hero? My nephew brought it over and I became addicted. Let me just say that I totally made that game my bitch. I wanted to run out and buy it for myself, but I knew it would prevent me from ever getting things done around here. As it was, Squeaks was hanging from my leg while I pleaded, “Hang on baby, just one more song” as I rocked out another verse of Cherry Pie. Yeah, I’m cool like that.

And speaking of Warrant (who sings Cherry Pie for those of you who are culturally retarded), I have yet to mention what next weekend holds for me. It’s called Rocklahoma and it’s 3 straight days of 80’s rock bands. I’m going with my SIL and some of her family. We are planning an all-adult weekend — no kids and lots of booze. Jackal, Warrant, Poison, and Vince Neil (lead singer of Motley Crue) are only a few of the headliners. I’m pumped!

Happy 4th! July 4, 2007

Filed under: Family, Holidays, Me Me Me — Meg @ 8:15 pm

We usually have a big blowout party on the 4th, but we decided to do it last night instead. It just makes more sense. We always stay up too late and drink too much and then everyone is hurting at work the next day. So we did it last night so that everyone could spend their holiday recovering!

I was really excited for Squeaks. I knew she would miss the big stuff, but we bought her some smoke bombs and other kiddie stuff. However, the poor kid was so tired from playing all. day. long. that she was conked out by 7:30. Oh well, we can always do her stuff today.

As for the rest of us, we had an adult-version slip and slide, the pool, a lot of booze, and some big fireworks. It was a smaller crowd than usual, but somehow they made a bigger mess than all of the huge parties we’ve hosted in the past. It was a great time, but I’m still in that limbo between sane and insane, so I couldn’t really cut loose. I sipped a glass of wine and just kind of watched everyone else. Thankfully my pregnant friend was there so she and I enjoyed sobriety while watching the others make idiots of themselves.

Tonight we will be doing more fireworks with my family. As the majority of them are anti-booze, it will be no problem for anyone to get to work tomorrow! We just have the perfect land for shooting off fireworks, so I figure we will be hosting multiple parties from here on out. I’m excited because this will be a much more mellow night and I can enjoy watching the kids play. And to top it off, I’m the idiot who promised all of the kids that they can spend the night with us. That’s 5 kids (including my own), ages 12, 11, 10, 5, and 19 months. I think I really am insane!
